Building the Operating System for Modern Government

Founded by Greater Sum Ventures in late 2017 with the acquisition of eGovernment Solutions, Catalis (formerly Government Brands) was launched to modernize how state and local governments serve citizens—through software, payments, and purpose-built technology.
From the outset, the company pursued an aggressive M&A strategy to build a category-spanning platform. During GSV’s hold period, Catalis acquired more than 28 public-sector software companies across the U.S. and Canada, integrating solutions across tax administration, courts and records, citizen engagement, regulatory compliance, and payments.
In 2021, the company completed a recapitalization led by PSG and TPG, marking a new phase of institutional growth and valuing the business at over $1 billion. The transaction positioned Catalis as one of the most scaled and diversified platforms in the govtech industry.
Today, Catalis supports thousands of state and local agencies across North America. Its platform facilitates essential public services, automates critical workflows, and processes billions in transactions annually across domains such as tax, utilities, permitting, courts, and public works.
