About
Daniel Kim is an Senior Associate at Greater Sum Ventures, where he focuses on sourcing and evaluating investments in growth-stage software companies and insurance brokerages.
Prior to joining GSV, Daniel was an early employee at DealCloud, a vertical CRM built for private capital firms. He later helped lead software sourcing at RF Investment Partners and Frontier Growth, partnering with founders across the lower middle market.
Daniel is drawn to businesses built from firsthand experience, where founders are solving problems they’ve lived through. He is particularly interested in vertical software markets that have lagged in technology adoption, where critical workflows are still managed through spreadsheets and manual processes—creating clear pain points and strong ROI for modern solutions.
Having joined the firm in 2026, he was attracted to GSV’s differentiated, operator-led approach and its track record in growth-stage software. The firm’s ability to relate to founders through shared experience—showing, not just telling—resonates deeply in his work.
Q&A
Do you have a favorite quote or saying?
“Confidence shared is better than confidence only in yourself.” — Coach K
You'll always go further when you can lift your teammates up with you.
What is your favorite book?
"Moneyball" by Michael Lewis. I’m a big sports stats nerd, but I love the book beyond just baseball. The qualities most people accept as signals of success aren't always all they're chalked up to be. I like living in a world where the real leading indicators of success are often the less obvious.
What do you wish more founders knew before taking on capital?
Capital is a commodity, but the right partner is not. The best investors go beyond writing a check. They align with founders, bring the right resources to the table, and offer meaningful operational support along the way.
