John Russell

John Russell joined GSV as its Chief Financial Officer in 2025, bringing more than 19 years of experience across finance, operations, and private investment environments. At GSV, John oversees the firm’s finance, accounting, reporting, and tax functions, working closely with internal teams to support value creation within the firm and its portfolio.

Prior to joining GSV, John served as Chief Financial Officer of PE-backed technology company Exigo, where he collaborated with founders and management teams to drive financial performance and improve operational efficiency and scale through periods of rapid growth and change. Earlier in his career, he worked at high-net-worth family offices, most notably the Mark Cuban Companies, gaining firsthand experience in entrepreneurial capital allocation, family office management, and the importance of adaptability in fast-moving environments.

John brings deep experience supporting founder-led SaaS businesses and is well-versed in navigating the transition from founder ownership to institutional partnership. He was drawn to GSV for its relationship-driven approach to investing—combining entrepreneurial roots with disciplined execution and a collaborative, operator-led mindset focused on helping founders realize their long-term growth ambitions.
