About

Since joining GSV in 2017, Jonathan Spurgeon has played a pivotal role in shaping the operational backbone of the firm’s portfolio platforms. Unlocking power through alignment and accountable teamwork, he helps GSV’s companies scale by building systems that translate strategy into measurable results.

Before GSV, Jonathan served as a co-owner and COO of Read Window Products, a leading manufacturer and supplier for the hospitality industry. While there, he oversaw a business transformation that grew revenue more than fivefold, focusing on process optimization, integration, and operational efficiency. That experience, coupled with two decades in leadership roles spanning manufacturing and technology, gives him an instinctive understanding of the challenges founders face when growth accelerates faster than infrastructure.

At GSV, Jonathan has been instrumental in more than 20 recapitalizations, guiding portfolio companies through post-acquisition integration and strengthening key operational areas such as contracts, legal, HR, insurance, and payments. Known for his calm approach and analytical mindset, he brings structure to ambiguity—earning a reputation as a trusted operator who can align people, process, and purpose.

Q&A

What’s your operating superpower?

Building trust and integrity-based relationships with our founders.  I think it’s critical that our businesses understand that we are not “gotcha” investors.  Our role is to win together, and I strive really hard to build that rapport through consistency day in and day out.

What kind of founders or companies do you love working with?

I love working with passionate founders.  Pat Summit, the hall of fame basketball coach at Tennessee, used to say that she can provide assistance and support all day long but she can never start someone’s engine.  That has to happen every day inside each person.

What is your favorite quote or saying?

The poem “IF” by Rudyard Kipling.  I shared it with my son at a young age, but as a middle-aged man I still find myself saying “IF” I can ever live up to those qualities. It just creates such a beautiful picture of the qualities we should all strive to build in our character.
